There is a shuttle bus that goes from Leeds Station (ish) but it costs 4.50 and does not run till Wednesday.
If you arrive Tuesday you will need to use local buses.
The cheapest way to do this is by purchasing a PlusBus ticket when you buy your train ticket online. (it is usually an option just before you pay)
It costs 3.00 or 2.00 with a rail card.
When you leave the railway station catch the City Bus from just outside the main entrance. This will take you a tour of Leeds eventually getting you to the Bus Station.
The 770 service leaves the far end of the bus station every half hour and stops just outside the gate to the festival(the stop is called \"Terry Lug Farm\"). It is hard to miss and the driver will throw you out, along with all the other festie people.
I don't know about leaving the site because I have always got a lift off someone but if you want to leave early catch the festival bus or if you have a day shift catch the 770 would be my best guess, if the 770 is the plan you can buy a plusbus ticket for Monday too.

We caught the bus to and from the festival a couple of years ago (and to and from tesco too) so I shall share my knowledge!
The city bus, which i have a feeling isn't free anymore but I may be wrong, is a no go for large groups. They're only little so 3 or 4 festivalers should be alright but all of the non festival people will try and push on before you. We were so packed on that Dan ended up touching an old woman's boob! It might be easier to just walk to the bus station which isn't far, it's actually the city bus stop before the train station but because it only goes on a one way circuit it'll be the last stop if you get the bus there.
I never notice where to get off. Every time without fail, when arriving by car, taxi or bus, i don't know we're there until the car pulls up or everyone starts getting off the bus. It's alright though because there's always people obviously going to the festival and if it's a Tuesday they'll all be heading to the staff entrance so just follow them.
When we caught the bus back into Leeds on the Monday afternoon we had to wait for about an hour to turn up. All of the traffic was backed up because of everything coming out of the gate, but we had some entertainment in watching the fairground trucks trying not to hit the trees on the other side of the road as they tried to turn. Once we were on the bus though the traffic was fine but we were all a bit crammed on as it was only a single deck bus (double decker on the way there) and a big queue had formed behind us at the stop. So you might want to hold your nose!

It is just over half a mile to the Bus Station, (called Central Business Station on Google). Metro Bus costs 50p but is covered by PlusBus ticket. I always managed the trip without fondling the natives but Dan is obviously (un)luckier than me.
