Which tent to buy?

Hey everyone!

I am trying to decide which tent to buy, and from where.

There is sooooo much choice out there. I looked at customer reviews, and for every person that praises a tent(saying it will keep you dry) - another person says they were soaked! LOL.

I am travelling from Ireland, so I am trying to keep my packing small and light - please note the word trying (I will be the person with the biggest suitcase) ;)

Anyway, any advice on tents, camping equipment and clothing - I will really appreciate it.

I am such a newbie - so I am a little nervous........

Cheers!!!

Gerri :)

Hi Gerri,

Maybe you could check out Halfords... they have a sale on at the moment, you can get a reasonable tent for £20 add the extras.. £27

I'd suggest get one that's 'one man' more than you want.. i.e one person get a 2 man, 2 person get a 3 man..

For Halfords, check out their offers.

Argos also have a sale at the moment, and they do the Gelert pop-up tents.

You could of course try EBAY, if you have enough delivery time...

With regards to equipment, check out other forum postings.. or the facebook group...

Don't worry about being nervous, there's a few 'old moggies' on here that have done it a few times, there's lots of newbies too... everyone was a newbie at one point, but the old moggies make you feel welcome and are friendly... you'll have a great time, make lots of friends and will have had a great experience...

First off hello
Secondly don't worry about being nervous, everyone is amazingly friendly.
As for tents if you are intent on travelling lightly a pop up tent is a good idea as it is light although they can come in large bags.
A slightly more expensive but ultimately drier option if it pours with rain would be a double skinned tent. It's worth checking supermarkets and the like as they often do deals on them ie tent, sleeping bag and torch
It's the usual spiel for the clothes. Pack a bit of everything! Warm stuff for the night shift, cool stuff and sun cream for the day shifts. The one thing I would recommended is a good pair of walking shoes or boots as you can cover a lot of ground on a shift.

I can highly recommend Rage tents. It's worth looking on Ebay for really good deals. I bought a massive 4 man Rage Tunnel tent off Ebay a few years ago, brand new for £40. They normally retail at over £150!

Hi everyone. I am so sorry for only seeing your replies now. Thank you so much for all the information. I have made the mistake of buying a Regatta Pop-up tent. I think I will have to bring it back to Argos, and try your recommendations. The bag is far too big for my suitcase - unless of course, I buy a bigger suitcase ;) See you guys soon!!!! Thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it!

Gerri, if you are still having problems at this late stage, due you wish to borrow a tent. I have spares and can throw one in for you if you're going to Leeds?

Hi Mike.

Thank you so much for your kind offer. I have literally just bought a tent at this last second. It fits my suitcase, but will probably take me an hour to put up (it says 10mins on the leaflet) lol

See you at Leeds!

Cheers!
