Hey Hey everyone,

I dont know whether ive got the wrong end of the stick (which could be the case), but it seems this new system for shift allocation is stupid.

Me and my friends have all paid at different times, because of money problems etc etc, and now it looks like those that couldnt afford it straight away are going to get punished for it. From what i can gather, because they paid a deposit later than us, they might not be on the same shifts as us. Surely this is gonna pi* a lot of people off who want to work with theyre mates but are stuck at the arse end of a queue through no fault of there own. Surely the people who actually get to the site and queue first should get theyre choices first, or is it just me that thinks that this is a totally illogical system?

Rant over

Dont mean to sound like a to
* pot, but i just dont think this is gonna be a good idea. :)

We always try and make sure friends work together.

Although it's tricky, you can't please all the people.

We used to get A LOT of moans from those who paid early in the year but for whatever reason - work, exam resit, family - couldn't get to site to stand at the front of the queue.

So with the old system a group could pay their deposits a few weeks before the event e.g. to fill cancellation spots, get to site before you and your friends and get better shifts than you.

That doesn't seem fair.

We have to start pre-event allocation as doing it on-site is taking forever.

We thought about this quite a bit and this is the first moan we've received about the new system but perhaps there is a better way.

Do you have any ideas how to make it fair for all?

Putting it like that, yeah i suppose i was a little harsh and I do get thats its completely impossible to please everyone. Im just worried that the first to pay deposit might alienate a couple of people in a large group.
I dont know about everyone else, but our group would feel a lot better knowing that if they turn up late, chances are they'll not get their preferred shift, but theyll probably get a shift all together. As opposed to now where theres people worried that they'll be stuck on their own.

Obviously i dont have the info you guys have about groups etc, im just a moaning guy gettin a little worried that a few guys will be on their own. I wasnt trying to get on anyones backs or anything, just trying to get an understanding of whats going on. I feel like i've angered you and i didnt mean to pi** anyone off at all. Sorry if i have.

Thanks for the quick reply though :)

I wouldn't worry too much - for many years I've personally allocated pre-event all the groups for another company at Glastonbury that has over five hundred staff and every year I spend a couple of days checking and double checking the group info on applications to make sure friends work together.

This is the first time Hotbox Events will be doing pre-event allocation and I won't be dealing with it myself but I'd expect no less.

Worst case - if your friends don't get their first preference of shift, you can always ask for your second so you still get to work with them.

Just make sure you've all noted each others names on your Hotbox PAAM profiles and you should be fine.

Yeah maybe I was just over reacting to it all. We've all put each others names on our profiles so we'll just have to see how it goes. Thanks for getting back to me and putting my mind at rest haha.

Hello,

Perhaps I'm missing something, but how can you find out what shift you are on? Or do you not find out untill the day, its just that you get priority in chosing becuase you paid earliest?

Once the shifts have been allocated (not yet) your shift pattern will be shown in your PAAM account - under event info (button to the right of the event name).
